Every week the Monday Mix showcases three new songs from the opbmusic broadcast. This week we feature songs from the inimitable Sharon Jones, a genre bending art rock band and the R&B singer Eamon.
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - Matter of Time
“Matter of Time,” is the first single from Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings’ final studio album “Soul of a Woman.” The late singer’s lyrics are an optimistic message of hope and call for unity. The Dap Kings sound as lively and tight as always. The video is a must watch; it shows behind-the-scenes footage of Sharon in all her unstoppable vibrance, including a brief shot of her sharing the stage with the late Charles Bradley.
Django Django - Tic Tac Toe
“Tic Tac Toe” is the latest from London based Django Django. Instrumentally, the band’s sound on this track is a sort of rubbery, danceable psych rock. The song is accompanied by a far-out music video that according to its director “could be about the fading era of the beach arcades, time moving too fast, love and games, horror and happiness but it is actually about a man who needs to go buy a pint of milk to make a cup of tea.”
Eamon - Before I Die
Eamon is best remembered for his early 2000s hit “F*** It (I Don’t Want You Back).” His latest song has a different attitude towards love. It’s an ode to the girl he wants to spend his last day with. His latest album “Golden Rail Motel” came out Sept. 15.
