Welcome to the Monday Mix, where each week we showcase new music debuting on the opbmusic broadcast. This time around, we feature an escapist jam, an intensely personal song and a track about overcoming anxiety.

Woods - “Where Do You Go When You Dream?”

The Skinny: This track from Woods is an offering of ethereal sounds that create an abstract mood of escapism. Whimsical keys continue to reinforce this feeling throughout the song and are bolstered by the soft vocals of singer Jeremy Earl. The band said the song is “the mission statement of the album … A gateway into dream and an escape from everyday reality.”

Release Date: “Strange To Explain” is out on May 22 via Woodsist.

PNW Tour Dates: Woods perform at Mississippi Studios in Portland on June 17.

Thao & The Get Down Stay Down - “Temple”

The Skinny: This new album marks the first release that Thao Nguyen has made since coming out as queer to her family. Nguyen said “I believe that shame has made my work more general when I’ve always wanted to be specific. This record is about me finally being specific. If you listen to my music, I want you to know who you are dealing with.” This sentiment is delivered in the unambiguous and devastatingly beautiful lyrics of “Temple,” which is written from the perspective of her mother who was a refugee from the Vietnam War.

Release Date: The album “Temples” comes out on May 15 Via Ribbon Music.

PNW Tour Dates: The band play Crystal Ballroom in Portland on June 20.

Wilsen - “Align”

The Skinny: Wilsen’s latest single directly addresses lead singer Tamsin Wilson’s self-described shyness and how she deals with anxiety as she grows older. “‘Align’ is about the weight and occasional jolting effect of eye contact. That rare experience when connecting eyes throws you into a narrative,” Tamsin said. This narrative leads to her pose the question in the chorus, “What if I had the guts to stay parallel with you the whole way?” Delivered in a quiet whisper, the vocals present an introvert’s state of mind with sympathy and grace.

Release Date: The record “Ruiner” is out now via Secret City Records.

PNW Tour Dates: Wilsen perform in Portland at Wonder Ballroom on April 18.
