Each week the Monday Mix showcases three brand new songs from the opbmusic broadcast. This week we feature a minimalist blues song, a highly anticipated track from Brooklyn indie rockers and a bright and bubbly electronic collaboration.
Feist - “I’m Not Running Away”
Leslie Feist, a member Canadian rock band Broken Social Scene and a renowned singer-songwriter in her own right, recently released her first solo album in almost six years. Our favorite song from the new record, called “Pleasure,” is the moody “I’m Not Running Away.” The track is a sparse, bluesy electric guitar tune featuring Feist’s emotive vocals over a backing bed of mellow strings.
Grizzly Bear - “Three Rings”
Brooklyn indie rockers Grizzly Bear have finally released the highly teased first song from their upcoming fifth album. “Three Rings” is the band’s first new material since the release of 2012’s “Shields,” and we’re getting major Radiohead vibes from the song’s layered textures, buzzing bass line, reverb-dipped vocals and trails of electric guitar.
RAC - “This Song ft. Rostam”
Portlander Andre Allen Anjos, aka RAC, is a Grammy-winning electronic artist known for his remixes. On “This Song,” the first single from his forthcoming album, Anjos teams up with musician Rostam Batmanglij, who adds wistful vocals and bubbly production that seem reminiscent of his former band, Vampire Weekend. The track is light with a danceable beat that adds a perfect amount of punchy energy.
