Each week, we feature three new songs just added to the opbmusic broadcast, starting this time with new music from Toronto’s BADBADNOTGOOD.

When the genre-bending jazz quartet BADBADNOTGOOD first met in the music program at Toronto’s Humber College in 2011, one thing quickly became clear: though their professors did not see the value in their particular brand of jazz meets hip hop, the rest of the world would. Their notoriety began on YouTube and has led them to collaborate with heavyweights in the music industry from Frank Ocean to Kendrick Lamar. Their latest track, “Tried,” pairs their intricate rhythms with the effortless and sultry vocal of Yukimi Nagano from Little Dragon. She soars from alto to airy falsetto, melding with BBNG to create a dreamy groove. The track marks the last iteration of BBNG’s IV Studio Sessions and signals much more to come.

Kikagaku Moyo - “Majupose”

On Friday, October 5th, Japanese psych rock band, Kikagaku Moyo dropped their fourth studio album, “Masana Temples.”  The band, whose name translates to “geometric shapes” made up the word “Masana” to describe a utopia of their own making. “Masana Temples” was an exploration and reflection of their journeys together as a band, which seems fitting considering the album was recorded in Lisbon, Portugal in April with jazz musician and producer Bruno Pernadas. If you missed them at the Wonder Ballroom over the weekend, don’t despair. You can still stream the album in its entirety on YouTube.

Erin Rae - “Putting on Airs”

Though Nashville artist Erin Rae could be described as a serial collaborator, she shared new music in June that was solely her own. “Putting on Airs” is the title track off the EP. It’s an introspective folk tune, beautiful in its simplicity, marked by delicate piano, lush pedal steel and Rae’s honey vocal. Best enjoyed fireside or live. Catch her at Mississippi Studios on October 14th at 8 PM.
