Gaz Coombes - “Walk the Walk”
On May 4th, Gaz Coombes released his third solo album entitled, “World’s Strongest Man,” a musical study on masculinity in modern society. You might remember Gaz Coombes from his time as frontman of the now defunct English rock band Supergrass, but since that group called it quits in 2010 the talented songwriter has struck out on an ever-evolving solo career. His latest single, “Walk the Walk,” highlights Coombes’ impeccable falsetto, all the while supported by a confident guitar and bass line strut.
Brooke Annibale - “Glow”
For Pittsburgh artist, Brooke Annibale, the lush new single, “Glow,” is a departure from her acoustic folk roots. “Glow” exhibits a modernized, indie-pop sensibility, drawing inspiration from musical influences like Swedish pop singer Robyn and direction from producer Sam Kassirer (Josh Ritter, Lake Street Dive). It’s ripe with rich textures, featuring an intriguing bit of percussion decorated with the loveliest of vocals. Her newest record, “Hold to the Light,” debuts June 8. You can catch her co-headlining with The Sweeplings on July 16 at Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge.
Buzzy Lee - “Coolhand”
“Coolhand” is the lead single off of Buzzy Lee’s (AKA, Sasha Spielberg) EP, Facepaint, which was released on April 27. Teaming up once again with avant-garde producer, Nicolas Jaar, Spielberg (yes, she’s the daughter of director Steven Spielberg) proves that talent doesn’t always skip a generation. An exploration of the pitfalls of a life lived for social media influence, “Coolhand” showcases her effortless vocal mixes with a dream pop beat to create a real earworm. You can stream the EP in its entirety here.
