Every week the Monday Mix showcases three new songs from the opbmusic broadcast. This week we feature new music from L.A. Salami, a (mostly) acoustic song from Ty Segall, and an epic ballad from Brandi Carlile.

L.A. Salami - Generation L(ost)

English musician Lookman Adekunle Salami, better known by his stage name L.A. Salami, just released “Generation L(ost)” from his upcoming album, “The City of Bootmakers.” It’s a wiry, uplifting, lo-fi anthem. Salami’s most recent album landed critical acclaim, appearing on Bob Boilen’s list of his top ten favorite albums of 2016. L.A. Salami plays in Portland at Mississippi Studios on March 20.

Ty Segall - My Lady’s On Fire

Ty Segall just released a recorded version of “My Lady’s on Fire,” a song that’s been a staple of his live show throughout the past year. In the coming months, Segall is set to play a series of solo acoustic shows in California and this track is a perfect primer for those gigs. It begins with just Segall and his guitar. Instruments slowly introduce themselves into the mix until the song culminates in a surprisingly sax-heavy outro.

Brandi Carlile - The Joke

“The Joke” Is the first song released from Brandi Carlile’s forthcoming album, “By The Way, I Forgive You.” It’s a country rock pep talk for the marginalized and disenfranchised. The strings on the track were arranged by the late Paul Buckmaster, known for his work on some of David Bowie and Elton John’s biggest hits.
