Welcome to the Monday Mix, where each week we showcase three songs debuting on the opbmusic broadcast. This time around, we highlight a garage pop track from a Portland-based songwriter, some rhythmic afrobeat, and a surprising collaboration from deep in the heart of Texas.

Sunbathe — “Can’t Be Sure”

The Skinny: “Can’t Be Sure” is the first single off of Sunbathe’s upcoming sophomore LP “Somewhere In Between.” Vocalist and songwriter Maggie Morris has a style that can only be described as casual cool, which fans of Liz Phair of Amy Mann will immediately recognize. Here, Morris’ vocal approach is coupled with a catchy instrumental arrangement that blends precise pop sensibility with garage rock.

Release Date: “Somewhere In Between” is out on March 17 via Time Release.

Upcoming PNW Shows: Sunbathe perform along with Deathlist at The Fixin’ To in Portland on Jan. 31.

Antibalas — “Fight Am Finish”

The Skinny: Antibalas is an afrobeat band conceived in Mexico City and formed in Brooklyn. Rhythm is the dominate backdrop to this song and it will stay with long after your first listen. But don’t let that stop you from hitting the repeat button.

Release Date: The album “Fu Chronicles” is out on Feb. 7 via Daptone Records.

Upcoming PNW Shows: The band perform on Feb. 22 at Stage 722 in Portland.

Khruangbin and Leon Bridges — “Texas Sun”

The Skinny: Houston-based group instrumental trio Khruangbin & Fort Worth native Leon Bridges have teamed up for a 4-song EP. The title track, “Texas Sun,” is an ode to their home state. Khruangbin paint the musical canvas beautifully with soft, soothing colors that perfectly compliment Bridges’ smooth voice.

Release Date: The EP “Texas Sun” comes out on Feb. 7 via Dead Oceans.

Upcoming PNW Shows: No tour dates have been announced yet.
