When Pickathon returns August 3-6, it’ll be the 19th season of the popular and eclectic festival, with a lineup this year including long-running indie rock bands Drive-By Truckers and Dinosaur, Jr., soul revivalist Charles Bradley, Tuvan throat singers Huun Huur Tu, local acts Y La Bamba and The Last Artful, Dodgr, and and fast-rising New Orleans band (and winners of this year’s Tiny Desk Contest), Tank and the Bangas.
We’re revisiting favorite opbmusic sessions with artists playing this year’s festival, starting with Tank and the Bangas. After winning the homemade video contest through NPR Music, the band played several West Coast cities for the first time, including Portland. Their return here to play Pickathon is another opportunity to catch their colorful storytelling and roller-coaster songs in a live setting.
Tank and the Bangas play twice at Pickathon: Saturday at 4:20 p.m. on the Woods Stage, and 7:50 p.m. Sunday on the Treeline Stage. Watch their Saturday performance live on opbmusic as part of a live video stream from the festival all weekend long.
