Canadian artist and former lead singer of the Be Good Tanyas, Frazey Ford has released a pair of strong solo records since 2010, including a beautiful 2014 effort called “Indian Ocean,” recorded in Memphis with support from members of Al Green’s former backing band, who lend particular gravity to Ford’s voice and emotional songwriting.

In this afternoon set from the Woods Stage at last summer’s Pickathon, Ford and her band drew on songs from “Indian Ocean,” turning the stove to simmer for this version of the song “Natural Law.” Its lyrics like, I let the arrow fly and this truth pours from me and shatters everything,” had the crowd nodding along to every word, which Ford’s quavering voice delivered with a mix of sadness and resolve.

Every month opbmusic presents songs recorded live at the Pickathon Woods Stage. These videos are hand-picked to showcase some of the festival’s most exciting performances. Pickathon returns on August 2-4 in Happy Valley, Oregon, with a lineup that features Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Khruangbin, Lucius, and Fruit Bats.
