One of my favorite bands last year at SXSW in Austin was the up and coming soul band Durand Jones & The Indications. Just a few years out of college at the University of Indiana, the group played with infectious verve and energy on stage, backing Jones’ smooth crooning with smoking hot arrangements and the kind of spontaneous interplay that’s not dimmed by years of familiarity. At the time, the band had just signed to the Dead Oceans label to release their debut album, recorded on a shoestring budget in drummer Aaron Frazer’s basement.
Last week, the band released their follow-up, titled “American Love Call.” The album’s lead single is this song, “Morning in America.”
