Oregon-based songwriter Casey Neill’s latest effort is called “Subterrene.” The record comes out on March 23, but you can hear a sneak peak of the new release above. This track, “My Beloved Accomplice,” is one of Neill’s favorites from the new batch of material. And it’s easy to see why. With bubbly Who-esque synths, dramatic strings, jangly guitars and vocals that wouldn’t be out of place on a Son Volt album, the song is a complex and enjoyable piece of rock-n-roll that oscillates between sanguine and gloomy sounds.
Neill’s backing band, The Norway Rats, which features a cast of prominent musicians including Jenny Conlee-Drizos (The Decemberists), Chet Lyster (Eels), Jesse Emerson and Joe Mengis (as well as contributions from Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey), will hit the road in Spring 2018 for a string of dates across the country.
You can catch Casey Neill & The Norway Rats in Portland, Ore. on March 23 at Doug Fir Lounge where they’re playing an album release show along with Swansea.
