Lithics are set to release their sophomore album, “Mating Surfaces,” on May 25. Although dominated by jangly and angular guitars, the band’s sound is ultimately defined by their call-and-response relationship with the dreamy vocals of singer Aubrey Hornor. It’s a kind of off-kilter dance— or maybe the beginning of a nervous breakdown. Either way, it’s mesmerizing, and the album’s latest single, “Edible Door,” has that dynamic in full display.

The four-piece band has built a stout reputation in their hometown of Portland with their intense live shows and anxious, mathy post-punk. You can catch them at The Spare Room on May 26 and across North America this June.
