Simon Tam of Portland band The Slants was on Think Out Loud earlier today to talk about the legal case involving the band’s name. The band has sought to trademark their name, but were denied by U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which deemed the name “offensive to persons of Asian descent.” Members of the band are Asian-Americans. The case is now going to a federal court of appeals.
