We first met Buck Meek in 2016, as the band Big Thief was touring the Pacific Northwest for the first time, just a week after we’d seen the group’s eye-opening set at SXSW in Austin, Texas. The session they played in our studio was the first they’d ever played at a radio station. And for the second time, we were transfixed by the interplay of Meek’s wiry guitar and frontwoman Adrianne Lenker’s astonishingly raw and powerful voice.
Before Big Thief began its rapid ascent among the most-acclaimed rock bands of the past few years, Meek and Lenker had played for years as a folk duo in Brooklyn, so it wasn’t a complete surprise in 2018 when Meek released his first solo album of easy-to-like, rambling songs that made you want to settle in to a comfortable place and let the stories unfold. This year, Meek released a new song, called “Halo Light.”
