When Detroit’s Jessica Hernandez started singing in front of a band, she was almost too shy to perform. Hernandez says she couldn’t get the nerve to sing on stage and skipped her first booked show, and her second one too. Nevertheless, the 25 year-old has a big stage presence and a dramatic voice. Channeling a bit of Motown and her own love of the theatrical, Hernandez struts and dances, and holds nothing back on songs like “Sorry I Stole Your Man.” (She doesn’t sound sorry at all.) Along with her terrific band, Hernandez played this set for opbmusic. You can hear our interview about growing up in Detroit, living above the family restaurant, and the dark themes that run through her music, in the audio player below.

Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas visited our studios 12-16-14 to play songs from their debut release Secret Evil.
