The Hugs had the kind of quick start that seems like a film storyline:  formed by Danny Delegato in 2007 while he was still in high school in Portland, the group was “discovered” via MySpace by rock photographer Roger Sargent, and Columbia Records soon signed them to a record contract. The Hugs toured the UK and ended up recording in London a year later. However, the label declined to release the music, and dropped the band in 2009. Back in Portland, the group set about working independently and building a fan base from the ground up. It’s not hard to hear both a Brit-pop melodic romanticism and grungier NW energy in their sound. In March The Hugs will release their fourth album, Feelings of Life. The quartet of Delegato, Skyler Weaver, Calvin Berkenbile and Joshua Rheaume start our session with their new single, “Wherever You Go.”
