Canadian collective Broken Social Scene headlined last summer’s Pickathon festival, filling every corner of the Woods Stage with musicians on Saturday night for a sweeping tour of the band’s nearly 20-year catalog.

A few songs into the set, frontman Kevin Drew addressed the crowd in solidarity and sympathy over the events in Portland earlier in the day, when right-wing demonstrators and counter-protesters had engaged in an ugly confrontation in the city’s downtown streets. Those events seemed miles away from the festival’s dusty campsites scattered along the sides of trails, hammocks suspended from trees, and the arching natural sculpture of branches that framed the Woods Stage Saturday night.

The set’s second-to-last song featured vocalist Ariel Engle in this extended and energetic performance of “Almost Crimes.” The song is on the band’s 2002 release, “You Forgot it in People.”

Every month this year, opbmusic presents songs recorded live at the Pickathon Woods Stage. These videos are hand-picked by opbmusic to showcase some of the festival’s most exciting performances. Pickathon returns on Aug. 2-4 in Happy Valley, Oregon, with a lineup that features Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Khruangbin, Lucius, and Fruit Bats.
