2018 was a hell of a year for Haley Heynderickx. She released her full-length debut, “I Need To Start A Garden,” in March and then struck out on a grueling tour that included dates in the U.S., Canada, Western Europe, and even a slot on the bill at the Strawberry Music Festival in China. Along the way, her album and live shows collected positive reviews from pretty much every music publication in the world.
When she returned to her home state of Oregon in August to perform at Pickathon, Heynderickx was a seasoned musician clicking on all cylinders. There, her road-tested band performed the songs she’d shared across the world the previous six months with family, friends, and an overflow crowd of local concertgoers at the Woods stage. It truly was a homecoming. And several minutes into the set, Heynderickx even told the crowd how excited she was to play at the 20th edition of a festival that she had attended as a fan only a few years prior. But she was there to perform now — and man, did she ever. With it’s dramatic peaks and valleys, this closing rendition of “Worth It” was one of the highlights of the festival.
Every month this year, opbmusic presents songs recorded live at the Pickathon Woods Stage. These videos are hand-picked by opbmusic to showcase some of the festival’s most exciting performances. Pickathon returns on Aug. 2-4 in Happy Valley, OR with a lineup that features Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Khruangbin, Lucius, and Fruit Bats.
