“Think Out Loud” to Moderate and Broadcast Live October 10 Candidate Conversation

OPB News and the City Club of Portland will host a Gubernatorial debate between Democratic Governor John Kitzhaber and Republican Representative Dennis Richardson on Friday, October 10 at noon at the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland. It will take place in front of a live audience and will also be broadcast live on OPB Radio.

OPB’s daily program Think Out Loud is producing the debate, with host David Miller serving as moderator. The candidate conversation is part of the City Club’s Friday Forum—a weekly lunchtime program featuring topics that affect Oregonians.

“We are honored to co-host this important conversation with both candidates,” said Sarah Rothenfluch, executive editor, OPB News. “As a public service organization, we take seriously the responsibility of facilitating balanced and intelligent conversations about the issues that affect communities across the state. We value the importance of educating the public about their choices in leadership so we can help build a better-informed local electorate.”

The candidate conversation will cover a variety of topics—such as education, public policy, healthcare, social services and more—with a focus on racial equality within these areas.

“With Friday Forum’s intentional focus on racial equity this year, we have an opportunity to ask our Gubernatorial candidates how our policies, laws and vision for Oregon can advance opportunities and outcomes for all Oregonians—in particular, communities of color,” said Caitlin Baggott, Chair of the Friday Forum Committee.

It will be broadcast live on Think Out Loud beginning at noon, and on Jefferson Public Radio in Southern Oregon. It can also be streamed online and through the OPB News app for mobile devices. Following the live broadcast, the debate will be rebroadcast at 8 p.m. on OPB Radio and available online at www.opb.org/thinkoutloud.

In conjunction with the debate, OPB is hosting a live tweet up from the event featuring a panel of political experts and journalists. The public is encouraged to follow to discussion on Twitter using the hashtag #orgovdebate.
