“What we both have in common is the emphasis is on the story. If we do something fancy or dramatic - if, for a second, we’re concerned that it will distract from the story, then we won’t do it.”
Mike and Laura Allred are famous among comics artists for their vibrant, eye-popping panels and classic style. Their series, Madman, and subsequent body of work have won more Harveys, Eisners, and other awards than any one mantle could possibly hold.
We visited Mike and Laura at their home in Eugene, at the suggestion of this week’s guest curators. They told us the story of how they met, but also talked about their workflow, and what they admire in each other’s approach.
