Sept 13, 2014: Guest Curators Kelly Sue DeConnick and Matt Fraction

It has been some kind of year for the incomparable Kelly Sue DeConnick and Matt Fraction.

Kelly Sue's series, Pretty Deadly, meshes hard-boiled detail and old-school shoot-'em-up sequences with a devastating revenge story. The visual and narrative style fluctuates between feverish and elegant.

They write comics, telling the stories of the top names in the Marvel universe: Iron Man, Captain Marvel, the Avengers, X-Men, and more.

For years, they’ve also cranked out interesting side projects on the side. But in the past year, they both hit it big with independent series, and both ended up nominated for the industry’s prestigious Eisner award.

Matt's series, Sex Criminals, is probably not what you're thinking. Two young lovers find they have the ability to stop time when they...urrr... engage in certain activities. So they start robbing banks.

Did we mention they’re married? While they’ve never written together, their sensibilities cross over in interesting ways. This week, Kelly Sue and Matt sit down to talk about their runaway successes with Sex Criminals and Pretty Deadly, as well as their new projects.

They’ll introduce us to some colleagues, talk to us about comics as a collaborative form, riff on what they take from each other, and striking the balance with family life Also, we explore the seismic changes in the industry, radically widening the range of what’s available for you to read.

Saddle up! And see you Saturday.
