Eastern Promise offers college credits in rural high schools in eastern Oregon. It also has curriculum starting in elementary schools, like Sherwood Heights, in Pendleton.

Eastern Oregon has a higher graduation rate than the rest of the state and is now focused on getting high school graduates to go on to college. The Eastern Promise program offers eastern Oregon high school students a chance to earn college credits, making it more likely that these students will attend college after they graduate.
The program also aims to close the gap between Latino students and white students when it comes to post-secondary education. Students who speak Spanish can take a test to get college language credits.
We talk with OPB reporter Rob Manning about how the program works and the unique challenges of replicating it in different parts of the state.
