Follow-Up On Infant Mortality Numbers In Multnomah County

Christine Dashiell/Public Insight Network

Last week, we heard from Multnomah County Health Officer Paul Lewis about new data that show an increasing disparity between white women and women of color. The report shows infant death occurred, on average, in 5.3 out of 1000 births in the county, but for African-American and American Indian/Alaska Native women, the rate was nearly double that.

We’ll dig into the policy implications of these numbers, and the racial disparity they reflect, with Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury.

Editor’s note: This post has been changed to reflect the correct demographic categories in the report.
