New Oregon Laws Taking Effect In 2015

John Rosman /OPB

Most everyone knows that recreational marijuana will become legal in Oregon July 1, 2015, but did you know that the new year also brings changes to several other state laws? Here are a few:

  • Oregonians with a minor marijuana conviction on their record are now able to get a concealed handgun permit.
  • The state’s minimum wage goes up by 15 cents to $9.25 per hour on January 1.
  • People under 21 seeking medical attention related to alcohol consumption will now be immune to minor-in-possession charges.
  • Portland Meadows can now install Instant Racing electronic gambling machines.

We’ll talk with Statesman Journal reporter Anna Staver about these and other new laws taking effect in 2015.
