News Roundtable: January 16, 2014

Creative Commons

Every week, we take a look at some of the biggest stories in the region and around the country with a rotating panel of journalists and other news watchers. This week we’re holding the roundtable a day early to make room for an hour-long discussion about the life and legacy of poet William Stafford on Friday.

Our discussion topics for the roundtable include:

  • The U.S. House passes a $1.1 trillion spending bill
  • Washington Governor Jay Inslee says the state should raise its minimum wage (which is already the highest in the nation)
  • The Columbia River Crossing is back in Oregon for another round this legislative session
  • TriMet ridership is down while publicity around the new transit bridge is up
