150 Years Of The Oregon State Fair

Photos from here and there at the Oregon State Fair in Salem on opening day, Friday, August 28, 2015.

It’s the first day of the 150th Oregon State Fair. We are live from the fairgrounds, on the Garden stage. We explore the agricultural roots of the fair and how county fairs all over the state feed into this event in Salem. But cows and sheep and other animals are just one aspect of the fair. The fair also celebrates a wide swath of Oregon culture — from art, paper arts and textiles to cake decorating, table setting and poetry, not to mention making room for exhibiting more unusual and unique talents, like sword swallowing.

If you’re planning to visit the fair on the first day, stop by and say hello and watch the show — maybe even tell us your favorite memory of the fair. You can also share you stories by commenting on this page or our Facebook page.
