Oregon Supreme Court Hears Arguments On PERS

Oregon Supreme Court

Oregon Supreme Court

The Oregon Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday on new legislation aimed at cutting costs to the state’s public employee retirement system (PERS).

The case focuses on two bills passed in the 2013 legislative session, which reduced cost-of-living increases for retirees. Public employee unions say this violates their contracts with the state, but Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum disagrees.

The legal challenge was not unexpected, but the outcome is difficult to predict. We’ll talk with Statesman Journal reporter Hannah Hoffman following the oral arguments this morning.
