Alex Pettit, Oregon’s chief information officer, says the state should drop its own insurance exchange in favor of the federal system. Switching to the federal exchange appears to be the most cost-effective and quickest way to a working system, although Oregon would lose the ability to integrate Medicaid enrollment and private insurance into the exchange. It is also possible that those who have managed to enroll through Cover Oregon would have to re-enroll in the new exchange. Cover Oregon’s board decides on Friday whether to follow Pettit’s recommendation. We’ll get more details from OPB’s health reporter, Kristian Foden-Vencil.
