Portland Cuisine To Watch (And Taste) in 2014

As restaurant critics, Portland Monthly’s Karen Brooks and The Oregonian’s Mike Russell frequent some of the same places, but they certainly don’t come to the same conclusions. For example, Brook’s pick for the best restaurant last year is Ava Gene’s, a new high end place established by Stumptown coffee founder, Duane Sorenson. Russell’s top pick on the other hand is Ox, a kind of nouveau steak house that opened in 2012.

Among their hopes for 2014: Russell’s looking forward to fried chicken; Brooks hopes Brooklyn pizzeria Paulie Gee’s opens in Portland.

We’ll ask both critics to defend their 2013 picks and tell us more about what their most looking forward to in 2014.
