Should Smoking Be Banned In Public Parks?

Right now, if you want to smoke in a public park in Portland, you may or may not be on safe legal ground. In some parks, smoking is not allowed at all (like in Director Park, some of the Park Blocks and in Pioneer Courthouse Square, for instance). But in most of the other parks, smoking is allowed as long as it’s at least 25 feet from a children’s play area or picnic table. Today, the citizen Parks Board presented recommendations to City Commissioner Amanda Fritz, saying that all Portland public parks should be completely smoke-free.
