This session was historic in more than one way. The House was split evenly, with 30 Democrats and 30 Republicans. Oregon representatives made the unprecedented decision to elect co-speakers, one from each side of the aisle. It’s also the first session since Oregonians passed a ballot measure instituting annual sessions for the state legislature. That measure imposed a strict deadline for adjournment, which lawmakers barely met.
