UO Basketball Players Accused Of Rape Won't Be Charged

Earlier this week we talked about dealing with sexual violence on college campuses. The conversation came after the Obama administration criticized colleges and universities for “turning a blind eye” to sexual assaults on campus.

On the heels of that discussion, news began to break that three University of Oregon (UO) students on the Ducks basketball team would not be charged with rape for an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of March 9. A student alleged that UO students Dameyan Dotson, Dominic Artis, and Brandon Austin assaulted her at a party. But Lane County District Attorney Alex Gardner has decided to not press charges against the players. Gardner says the decision was based on the insufficiency of available evidence “to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.”
