West Salem High School Sex Abuse Case Reverberates

West Salem High School basketball coach Emrance Berger plead guilty and was sentenced last month for sexually abusing two students over a seven year period. The Statesman Journal has been following the story and its reverberations. It’s still unclear how many other victims might be out there, and a lawsuit is likely to be filed against the school district for failing to act sooner.

Executive editor Michael Davis says he and reporters Carol McAlice Currie and Laura Fosmire have had difficulty getting people to comment on the record about this case. We’ll talk to the reporting team about the story and its aftermath and what keeps people from speaking out about sexual abuse — not just in Salem but in cities all over the country.
