A timber industry trade group and others are challenging the Biden administration’s decision to halt and reconsider the removal of millions of acres of federal protections for the northern spotted owl.

The decision to slash protections beyond an agency's recommended levels was pushed by the Trump administration in its final days.

Wildlife officials are taking a new look at the status of the threatened northern spotted owl.  Despite decades of efforts to save the species, it could soon be considered endangered.
