BRAVO Youth Orchestras

Producer: Eric Slade  Videographer: Todd Sonflieth  Editor: Bruce Barrow  Audio: William Ward, Randy Layton, Ted Cutler  Additional Video: Sam Slater

Meet the students and teachers of the BRAVO Youth Orchestras, an intensive music education program at Portland’s two lowest income schools.

As Executive Director Seth Truby tells us, “Talent doesn’t have a zip code.”

BRAVO students attend music classes five days a week, two hours a day, quickly learning deep musical skills, and important life skills. These young musicians travel the state, performing nearly 40 concerts each year. BRAVO is part social change, part music education, “Changing the world one string at a time.”

Special Thanks to Nohely Oliveros, Patricia Abdelnour, Romina Noviello, FundaMusical Bolívar, Eric Booth, Mark Newbanks, Kimberly Warner, Black Violin, Peter Rockwell, Jim Fullan, Pastor Ed Williams, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Jeff Lane and Bonnie Reagan.

And our thanks to the musicians of the Oregon Symphony, members of Local 99 of the American Federation of Musicians.
