A bold project called "Tree For All" aimed to plant 1 million trees and shrubs in a single year.
Organizers call it the largest community based restoration program in the U.S. The genesis for this recent giant project started years ago as an alternative for Clean Water Services to avoid building a $150 million chiller to cool wastewater discharge into the Tualatin River.
The project morphed into an ever-growing stream restoration involving rural farmers and urban utilities, parks and governments.
And that goal of 1 million plantings? They blew right past it and planted 2 million trees and shrubs in just one year.
