Exploring Options To Help Pedophiles

Pedophiles are often lumped into a single group: monsters who can’t be saved. But not every person with an attraction to children acts on those desires. A recent piece in Matter magazine by Luke Malone profiled a young adult named Adam, who as a teenager recognized his attraction to children and has struggled to find help (the story also ran on This American Life).

In Germany, Prevention Project Dunkelfeld seeks to provide early intervention to pedophiles. But in America, the support system is largely reactionary, with most people only receiving treatment after they have committed an offense.

We’ll discuss combating the stigma of pedophilia and treatment options with author Wilson Kenney, who is the clinical director at the Professional Therapeutic Community Network in Salem. And we’ll talk with an Oregon man named Gary about how he has managed his own sexual feelings toward children.
