Attorneys for Marion County say they don’t plan to bring any charges against Newberg City Manager Jacque Betz.

Earlier this month, Betz placed Newberg Police Chief Brian Casey on leave — but didn’t explain her reasoning to the City Council. That caused notable backlash in the city.

The council then removed Betz from her post and sought a criminal investigation.

The Marion County District Attorney’s Office says there’s no evidence that Betz committed a crime by removing the police chief. Betz’s replacement, City Manager Pro Tem Terry Mahr, put Casey back in office last week.

City officials say they’ve requested the police reports in the case for review.
