Hundreds of Muslims gathered at Hillsboro Stadium on Tuesday to celebrate Eid Al-Adha. Celebrations followed the prayer and sermon as community members greeted each other dressed in festive clothing. The event was hosted by Bilal Masjid and the Islamic Community Center of Hillsboro, or ICCH.
Muslims celebrate two Eids every year. Eid Al-Fitr, after the holy month of Ramadan, and Eid Al-Adha, to commemorate Hajj, the annual pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudia Arabia.
Local mosques and Islamic centers organize big gatherings for Eid every year in stadiums and convention centers, but were unable to do that for the last three Eids due to COVID-19 restrictions. Tuesday’s celebrations in big groups are the first in almost two years.
