Lane County Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man in Cottage Grove early Saturday morning.
The Lane County Sheriff’s office received a report of a dispute between a man and a woman late Friday night. Deputies responded to the area, but initially could not locate them.
Around 1 a.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office said it received two more calls reporting that the man and woman were back at the same location and having another dispute. Deputies responded again and this time received information that the involved man was in an “outbuilding” on the property.
Deputies used a loud speaker to attempt to coax the man out of the building. The sheriff’s office said he came at deputies with a “large, fixed blade knife.”
The deputies shot the man as he approached them, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputies performed CPR on the man until medics arrived and pronounced him dead.
The man’s identity has not been released.
The shooting is being investigated by the Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team — a team of law enforcement officers from multiple agencies who investigate deadly force events in Lane County.
