Oregon ski resorts are beginning to open the slopes after heavy snow this week.

Dave Tragethon is with Mount Hood Meadows, which opened Friday.

"We got almost a foot and a half of snow since Wednesday morning. Conditions are awesome and it's been a great opening," said Tragethon. "You can just tell from the smiles on the faces of our skiers and snowboarders up here."

In Southern Oregon, Mount Ashland opens Sunday. Mount Bachelor near Bend opened more than two weeks ago.

Last year, low snowpack forced some resorts to close during the middle of the season. Resort owners are hoping that these early storms are a sign of a better winter ahead.
