NWS: Tornado Touched Down In SW Washington

The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down in southwest Washington Thursday.

The NWS announced Thursday evening that its damage assessment team confirmed the tornado. They estimated the EF1 tornado had wind speeds around seventy to 110 miles per hour

The City of Battle Ground says it received reports that 36 homes were damaged due to the storm. SE Parkway Road between Rasmussen and Eaton remains closed due to damage.

"We are asking that people stay away from the area unless they are a resident or have urgent business in the area," the city said in a release Thursday evening.

Amanda Bowen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland, said the forecast calls for more rain Thursday and higher winds Friday, but not the same intensity as earlier this week.
