The Beaverton school board will receive recommendations for major boundary shifts Monday as it prepares to open a new high school in fall 2017.
Superintendent Jeff Rose is backing a set of boundary changes recommended by the district’s advisory committee.
A new South Cooper Mountain High School at the southern end of the Beaverton district would directly affect Aloha, Southridge and Beaverton high school areas. There are also domino effects far to the north, with students in parts of the Westview area attending school at Aloha.
Superintendent Rose’s plan clarifies that sophomores as well as freshmen would change high schools in fall 2017, while juniors and seniors could stay put.
Some parents have objected to how the changes will play out, particularly for students who would have longer commutes to school. Some have also criticized Rose presenting a plan. He’s preparing to leave Beaverton to run a school district in Georgia.
The school board vote in May is supposed to focus on whether the plan meets specific goals.
