Welcome to the Monday Mix, where each week we highlight three standout songs debuting on the opbmusic broadcast.

Sleater-Kinney - “Can I Go On”

The Skinny: After a celebrated revival in 2015, the feminist punk icons just released their latest album, “The Center Won’t Hold,” on Friday. The new records finds the trio in new musical territory, with dance-ready grooves produced by St. Vincent. A month before the release, drummer Janet Weiss left the band. (She is also recovering from a serious car accident that occurred in July.)

Release Date: “The Center Won’t Hold” was released August 16.

PNW Shows: The tour includes two nights in Portland at the Crystal Ballroom, November 19 and 20.

Big Thief - “Not”

The Skinny: With one critically-acclaimed album already out this year, Brooklyn band Big Thief announced a ‘sister album’ due this fall.

Release Date: “Two Hands” will be released October 11 on 4AD.

PNW Shows: Big Thief will play the Crystal Ballroom October 24.

Pieta Brown - “The Hard Way”

The Skinny: Perfect for a nighttime drive, this new song features Brown’s breathy phrasing, over a chugging War on Drugs-style cadence, with Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler on guitar. Brown is the daughter of midwestern folk singer Greg Brown.

Release Date: “The Center Won’t Hold” was released August 16.

PNW Shows: No dates west of Nebraska have been announced yet.
