This formidably creative couple stand among the top talents working in comics today. They'll be keynote speakers at Cre8Con, The Portland Creative Conference Sept. 27 at the Gerding Theater in Portland.
Kelly Sue DeConnick brings a hard-edged emotional intelligence to her writing, making characters such as Captain Marvel tick. She’s also produced some of the most well-regarded independent titles of the past five years, including the speculative science-fiction satire “Bitch Planet," and the Eisner-winning supernatural Western “Pretty Deadly." (We’re more than a little excited about the latest issue, “The Rat," hitting comic book stores Sept. 4.) Lately, she’s been penning “Aquaman” for DC Comics.
Matt Fraction has written so many great storylines for Marvel characters such as Iron Man, Thor, Iron Fist and, memorably, Hawkeye, as well as celebrated Image Comics titles such as “Sex Criminals” and “Casanova." He’s a master at dialogue and creative story treatment. This fall you can find his collaboration with fellow Portlander Steve Lieber in DC’s “Superman’s Pal: Jimmy Olsen” series.
