U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra was in Northeast Portland Monday at a roundtable on youth mental health with Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek.

Oregon ranks among the worst states for youth mental illness and access to care. William Brangham went there and found a system facing heavy burdens, but one searching for solutions. It’s part of a new series by PBS' NewsHour, “Early Warnings: America’s Youth Mental Health Crisis.”

The newly formed Warms Springs Youth Council brought back lessons and inspiration from their trip to Washington, D.C. this summer.
