When a young girl named Lucy writes to Santa asking about life at the North Pole, a delightful years-long pen pal relationship begins.

Illustrator Lee White found both joy and challenge in creating the visual world and mood of the Christmas book, "Love, Santa."

"It's easy to illustrate Santa," White says, "But how do you illustrate the feeling of Christmas is magic ... the love and the feeling behind Christmas?"

White captures poignant moments of Lucy's correspondence — her signature changing with time. Years go by, and eventually, childhood's imagination gives way to coming-of-age transformation.

And White captures it all in stunning watercolor.
