A woman playing with her dog near Sherwood Middle School found a homemade bomb Wednesday evening, according to Sherwood police.
Police described the device as a ball, wrapped in tape, with a fuse sticking out of it. They said it was lying in the middle of a field near the school when the woman’s dog picked it up.
They said the device was incredibly dangerous, and had the potential to cause serious bodily injury. But the dog was not hurt.
The area was evacuated and a bomb squad was called to the scene to safely detonate the device.
Sherwood police continue to search nearby fields, parks and schools for similar devices. Anyone who sees one is asked to leave it alone and call 911.
Police are also reminding community members to keep their dogs on leashes.
