Search and rescue efforts returned no sign of Mathers on Wednesday. Additional efforts are planned for Thursday.

His last known location was the Shooting Star lift at Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort.

More than 40 people searched a significant amount of area throughout the day. Ground crews faced increasing avalanche dangers as temperatures rose in the afternoon, however.

In addition to searchers on the ground, air assets from the Oregon Army National Guard and drones operated by Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue scoured the mountain.

Thursday’s search will focus on double black diamond terrain in Heather Canyon and the Private Reserve, an area accessible from the Shooting Star lift.
