Fire doubles in size on Larch Mountain in Clark County

The Nakia Creek Fire burns Monday, Oct 10, 2022 on Larch Mountain in Clark County. Officials say the fire has grown from about 70 to 150 acres in a day.

A fire burning on Larch Mountain in Clark County has more than doubled in size since it began Sunday night, according to the Washington Department of Natural Resources.

DNR reports the Nakia Creek Fire is now estimated at 150 acres in size and a Type 3 incident management team has been assigned with ground and air resources engaging and attempting to establish control lines.

The fire began early Sunday evening near the border of Clark and Skamania counties, spreading across grass fields and reaching 70 acres in size by 8 p.m. Flames could be seen in the night sky from around the region.

In nearby Camas, the fire department has reported there’s no immediate threat to any homes, and no evacuations are planned.
